Wick Trimmer

$12.95

A wick trimmer is a tool designed specifically for trimming the wicks of candles. It is used to trim the excess length of the candle wick before lighting it. Wick trimmers are typically made of metal, often stainless steel, and feature a long handle with a curved or angled tip that allows you to reach down into the candle jar or container.

The primary purpose of a wick trimmer is to ensure that the candle’s wick is at the optimal length before lighting. When a candle burns, the wick gradually becomes longer, and if it’s too long, it can lead to several problems:

  1. Excessive Soot: A wick that is too long can produce more soot, which can accumulate on the inside of the candle container and darken the glass or jar.
  2. Uneven Burning: A long wick may cause the candle to burn unevenly, potentially creating a tunneling effect where the wax melts down the center but not on the sides.
  3. Dripping and Smoking: A wick that’s too long can lead to dripping wax and increased smoking, which can be both messy and less aesthetically pleasing.

To prevent these issues and ensure a clean, even, and safe burn, you can use a wick trimmer to trim the wick to the recommended length. Typically, wicks should be trimmed to about 6-7mm  before lighting a candle. A wick trimmer makes it easy to trim the wick without making a mess, and it helps maintain the overall quality and appearance of your candles.

Want your candle to last longer with minimal soot? Make sure you trim the extra carbon build up on your wick before every single new burn (our wick trimmers are perfect for this!)

During the burning process, carbon builds up on the wicks. This is a normal process, however if you re-light a wick that has this carbon build up it can cause excess soot and heat. This yields a lower quality candle performance. If you have ever noticed black smoke sticking to the sides of your glass candles in the past, this is why!

So just make sure to trim your wicks to 5-6mm when you notice this carbon build up on the wicks!
